Sasan Gir is
another name of Gir Wildlife Sanctuary. The park lies at Junagarh
district in Gujarat. The sanctuary is sprawled in an area of around 1412 sq
kms. It is a famous wildlife destination in India. Once served as the hunting
ground of the kings of Junagarh, Gir forest is the largest compact
stretch of dry deciduous forest in Gujarat. Being the only sheltering place of
the Asiatic Lion in the world, it attracts large number of visitors every year.
It got the title of a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1965 and later on, it became a
National Park after 10 years.

supports animals like Leopard, Jackal, Striped Hyena, Jungle Cat and Ruddy
mongoose. Other famous names in the list include Nilgai, Chital, Sambar,

300 species of birds, 35 species of reptiles and around 450 species of plants.

horned owl, grey and jungle bush quail, pied woodpecker, bonelli's eagle, black
lbis, grey drongo and white-necked stork. It remains open from November to May.
Gir NationalPark also provide shelters
to the population of the marsh crocodile that tourists can see in Kamleshwar
Dam. The herbage of the sanctuary encompasses dry and deciduous forest and
scrubs. The forest offers fuel wood that pays off in a huge amount.
